EUGENIA BALCELLS FOUNDATION

Letters from Akyab is a documentary film by the artist Eugènia Balcells, an inner journey, a search for origins, a vindication of female lineage and a fascinating discovery. The film honors Eugènia’s Burmese ancestors who were forced to hide their origins in order to continue their lives in Europe where they were sent to study. The recognition and integration of this valuable vital heritage provides meaning and coherence to all the artist’s work.

This film will be screened on March 10, 11, 12 and 13 at the Sala Azcona in Madrid. More information at Cineteca Madrid.

This year the JARDINS DE LLUM Festival has joined the Manresa 2022 project with installations related to the Iñigas, the women who have been fundamental in the life of Ignacio de Loyola in Manresa. In this sense BECOMING DEVENIR ESDEVENIR proposes a woman who is continuously reborn and evolves facing the waves of the sea, the earth, the air and the light.

BECOMING DEVENIR ESDEVENIR can also be visited from February 26 to May 15, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. From Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in previously arranged visits.

Casa Asia, in collaboration with the Eugènia Balcells Foundation, organizes the screening of the film Letters From Akyab by Eugènia Balcells, on February 4, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. After the film, there will be a discussion with the director.

Eugènia Balcells will present, as a guest artist, her work LIGHT AS A VOICE OF MATTER in the context of the FESTIVAL DE LA LLUM 2021 in Barcelona.

LIGHT AS VOICE OF MATTER is made up of two installations on an urban scale: the building the projection of the work FREQUENCIES adapted to the facade of the Barcelona Design Museum MHUB and the work FROM INFRARED TO ULTRAVIOLET, which will illuminate the Glòries (former Torre AGBAR ).

The installations can be admired from different points, without the need to reserve, from the 4th to the 7th of November from 7pm. until midnight.

On Tuesday, October 19, Eugenia Balcells was interviewed on the BETEVÉ’s Family Barris TV show about the concept of life: “We are evolving until our last breath”.
