JOHN BERGER – Art critic, screenwriter, essayist, writer, poet and painter. (1926-2017)

Born in London, John Berger has lived for many years in a small village in the French Alps, the setting for his trilogy Into their Labours: Pig Earth, Once in Europa and Lilac and Flag. His novels include, To the Wedding, King: a Street Story and the Booker Prize-winning G. Amongst his essays are Ways of Seeing, About Looking, Another way of Telling and The Success and Failure of Picasso. His most recent Works are the novel From A to X and Bento’s Sketchbook, a meditation on Spinoza and an exploration of the practice of drawing.

CARLOS CAVALLÉ – Dean Emeritus of IESE Business School 1984-2001 and is Founder and Chairman of the Social Trends Institute.

(PhD – Engineering) and President of the Public Sector-Private Sector Research Center. A trustee of the Institute for Media and Entertainment and the Strategy Research Foundation, he has been honored with Harvard Business School’s Distinguished Service Award, the University of Navarra’s Gold Medal and the Catalan government’s Creu de Sant Jordi.

ROALD HOFFMANN – Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1981

Born in 1937 in Zloczow, Poland, he survived the war and arrived in the U. S. in 1949, where he studied chemistry at Columbia and Harvard Universities. He has been at Cornell University since 1965, currently as the Frank H. T. Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters Emeritus. He has received many of the honors of his profession including the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Hoffmann not only has a vast scientific production in ‘applied theoretical chemistry’, that has been fundamental in zapping concepts of bonding, structure and reactivity in almost every field of chemistry. He has also been active in reaching out to the general public through his participation in the production of a television course titled ‘The World of Chemistry’, shown widely since 1990, and his running a monthly cabaret at the Cornelia Street Café in Greenwich Village. As a writer, Hoffmann has analysed in numerous essays chemistry’s relationship to philosophy, literature and the arts, including the role of symbolism and writing in science, and the nature of chemical reasoning. His books include poetry and plays.

Dr. S. MOHANAMBAL – Doctor of holistic and Ayurvedic Medicine, and a promoter for peace and integration in the planet.

She is originally from Bangalore, Karnataka, and has been living in Barcelona, Spain for over 20 years. She is a physician, holding several PhD in allopathic medicine. She is a specialist in ayurveda, homeopathy, acupuncture, aromatherapy and many other healing disciplines.
She is one of Europe’s foremost practitioners of holistic, mind body medicine, and her work and research have taken her across Europe, Asia and the Unites States. She works directly for the health and welfare of thousands of people. She has written numerous books about health and spiritual transformation.

FEDERICO MAYOR ZARAGOZA – Director General of UNESCO from 1987 to 1999.

Was born in Barcelona. He has a doctorate in Pharmacy from the Complutense University in Madrid and is Professor of Biochemistry in the Pharmacy Faculty of the University of Granada, where he has also been Rector. He set up the National Plan for the Prevention of Mental Deficiency to avoid, through rapid diagnosis, illnesses that produce serious mental deterioration. Co-founder of the Severo Ochoa Centre for Molecular Biology.
Among other political responsibilities, he has held the posts of Under Secretary for Education and Science in the Spanish government, Member of the Spanish Parliament, Minister for the President’s Office, Minister for Education and Science and Member of the European Parliament. In 1987 he was elected Director General of UNESCO and in 1993 was re-elected for a second term.
President of the European Research Council Expert Group (ERCEG) on the “knowledge based economy”; Co-President of the High Level Group for the Alliance of Civilizations; President of the “Initiative for Science in Europe” (ISE).
He is currently Chairman of the International Commission Against the Death Penalty; he is President of the Council for Participation in the Natural Space of the Sierra Nevada; Director of the Scientific Council of the Ramón Areces Foundation and President of the Foundation for a Culture of Peace.

PHYLLIS MONTGOMERY – Chief curator for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York.

She was Chief curator and research director for two national museums in New York City: the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Director of non-profit organization devoted to helping the Native American hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Exhibit coordinator and curator for the U.S. Pavilions at the World Fairs in Seattle, Washington (1962); New York, New York (1964-65); Montreal, Canada (1967); and Osaka, Japan (1970).

LEOPOLDO RODÉS – President of the Board of Trustees of the MACBA and member of the International Council of MoMA in New York. (1935-2015)

LEOPOLDO RODÉS has a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and is President of the media group HAVAS MEDIA. In 1958 he founded the advertising company TIEMPO. In 1978 he founded the Media Planning Group, which became the chief media hub for Spain and Latin America. He was member of the Executive Committee of Barcelona 92, and he was President of the Board of Trustees of Ramon Llull University from 2004 to 2012.
In the field of the arts he is, among other responsibilities, President of the Board of Trustees of the MACBA Foundation (Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum), President of the Fundación Arte y Mecenazgo (Art and Patronage Foundation), member of the Executive Committee of the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Liceu Theatre), International Member of the Fundación Museo del Prado (Prado Museum Foundation), Honorary Member of the Guggenheim Museum, member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Principe de Asturias and of the Executive Commission of the Fundació Príncep de Girona. He is Honorary Academician of the Reial Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi (St George Royal Academy of Fine Arts).
He is a member of the Chairman’s Council and International Council of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York, of the European Advisory Board of Christie’s International Europe and of the National Committee of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
